Key and recovery
How many signatures a key has, how to forge the next one, and how the 24 words bring everything back.
One key, 256 signatures
The key the app forges signs 256 times: one leaf per operation. The Key tab shows:
| Signatures left | Leaves of the current key not yet used |
| Key changes so far | How many times the account has replaced its key |
| Key now | The key that signs for the account today |
| Account | The account's name, which never changes |
Forge the next key
Press Forge the next key, then Sign the change with this key. The app builds the next tree from the same 24 words and the current key signs an operation that installs it.
- The account name, the balance and the 24 words stay the same.
- The new key has 256 fresh signatures.
- Every signature made with the old key is dead from that moment.
Do this before the last leaf is spent: the change itself needs one signature.
The 24 words
The words encode the 32-byte secret every tree of the account is derived from. With them you can rebuild the first key, the next one, and every one after that, on any device.
The words are the only way back. The passphrase protects one browser; it cannot restore an account. Keep the words offline and never type them anywhere but the app.
Locking
The app locks when you close it; open it again with the passphrase. On the lock screen, Use another key removes the encrypted secret from the browser. The account lives on in the vault, and the 24 words restore it.
